Jul 30 2012 - I am often struck shocked at the realization of just how close in proximity many major, often alien, historical events are to me. Since my brief existence in this world, I have thus far only had direct recognition of a handful of noteworthy events (the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Gulf War, and the September 11th terrorist attacks and subseque...

May 09 2012 - It is a dark day for civil rights; I fear how my generation and nation will be viewed by those to come. I don't wish to be counted amongst bigots and zealots, but with each day further, I worry I will have little say in the matter save for my single, lonely, angry voice. I may require a private island...

Mar 14 2012 - Voting has always been an area of personal internal philosophical debate. One the one hand, I feel compelled to participate in a civic practice that is designed to determine my elected officials; on the other hand, I am confident that my vote is predominantly meaningless, and ever more so because of where I live (a heavily democratic state and district). So, I vote and I educate myself, but I'm mostly in despair over my position; I'm certain I'm not alone in this position. And so it was fascinating to watch a few YouTube videos recently that succinctly explain why we feel this way, and ways it can be corrected, alternative voting and mixed-member proportional representation...

Oct 04 2010 - This gorgeous image of the NGC 604 nebula was captured by the Hubble telescope. It is an H II region in the Triangulum Galaxy. It is one of the largest such regions in the local group of galaxies...
